NAMI Volunteer Work

Hey All,

Just found out NAMI is looking for local volunteers in our area, mainly as support group facilitators. I'm thinking of volunteering. Does anyone do this? What are the upsides? Downsides?

I have been looking into my area about this as well. I emailed someone, but no one has emailed me back yet.

From what I take from it is that you can do speaking sessions. If you are open to share your struggles with bipolar they train you during so many classes and hours and teach you how to properly PRESENT your information and experiences in a professional way.

I believe the classes are FREE. There is also mentoring, family to family support, helping others who deal with their family members having a mental illness.

You just have to find exactly what your area has to offer.

Thanks DW. Our local NAMI came up with a generous endowment, and are putting the infrastructure in place to offer support groups literally multiple times a day, and in every part of town. They are looking for coordinators and facilitators. If they're adding that many support groups they'll need a good number of people, so I thought I'd see how I could help.
