I ran across this song again today, I hadn't heard it for years. I listened with an ear more knowledgeable about depression. A moving, insightful song. Emmylou quite obviously sings with first hand knowledge.
...But one thing they don't tell you about the blues when you got em
You keep on falling cause there ain't no bottom
There ain't no end.
At least not for Lillian...

jon - i love this song, and i love emmylou - been listening to her for years. she can do no wrong in my eyes... there's a woman who's willing to try new things.
AM - I agree. She's coming to my area later this summer, I'm going to finally have a chance to see her perform. I'll let you know how it is.
great stuff, jon!
RDG is an awesome song, I've loved it since the first time I heard it.
Here's a few other amazingly perceptive songs about the same subject:
"War On Drugs" - Barenaked Ladies
"Weather Channel" - Sheryl Crow
"Like The Weather" - 10,000 Maniacs
Thanks, Smythe.
Tim - thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
With the war in Iraq the lyrics here got me crying.
"She loved her brother I remember back when
He was fixin up a '49 Indian
He told her 'Little sister, gonna ride the wind
Up around the moon and back again"
He never got farther than Vietnam,
I was standin there with her when the telegram come
For Lillian.
Now he's lyin somewhere about a million miles from Meridian.
Mark - the song has a similar effect on me. Thanks for stopping by, I have blogrolled you, and will check out your sites from time to time.
I have always loved Emmylou...
Incidentally, what is your username over at MOG? I'd love to look you up over there. :-)
Ari - my user name is heartland, but I haven't updated for quite a while. Like so many things, I started it when I had a lot of hypomanic energy, then let it slide...
I added you to my trusted MOGs...
